September 23, 2011 Dear Dr. Sussman: I am writing to let you know that Josh will not be in to see you right now. He has made such tremendous progress! He has been weaned off all medication and has not been on any since June 2011. His behavior at school is good , and it is much improved at home. Additionally, his grades are very good at school this year – almost all A’s and B’s. I am amazed at where he is now! Back when we started to see you – about 11+ years ago now – I really was unsure if we would make it. His behavior was so out of control and the ADHD was so severe I was convinced he would be expelled as a kindergartener! The treatment you provide him – both through medication and suggestions for managing his behavior – was truly invaluable. In many ways, our visits to you were my therapy sessions – you always helped me identify what I was doing well and provided such praise for me as a mother. When the days were so hard and the hope hoard to find, you helped keep me focused on the big picture. You never gave up on Josh, and you never game up on me. You will never know the difference that has made in my life and in Josh’s . Who would have thought all those years ago that Josh would be a leader in JROTC, earn grades that got him on the honor roll, and become an Eagle Scout before he turned 16? I know my dreams for him at that point were hopes that he would get through the day – an hour- without an issue. My dreams and hope for him are so much bigger now. He has clear cut goals for his future. He knows what he wants and he has a plan to get there. I am so very proud of him! There are not works to fuller express my gratitude. Than you so much for everything. I’ll keep you informed of Josh’s progress over the next few years, and should a situation arise, we will call you to set up an appointment. Sincerely, Lisa McClain |
